Best Florida Flowers for Your October Wedding

October 7, 2026

By Amanda Rose Newton

October is when fall finally starts to feel possible in Florida. The mornings may still be warm, the palms are still green, and nobody is counting on sweater weather just yet, but there is a subtle shift in the season. For an October wedding, that means you can borrow the rich colors and textures of autumn without pretending you are getting married somewhere with falling leaves.

Fall Wedding Bouquet

This is a wonderful month to mix traditional fall flowers with tropical favorites, Florida natives, berries, grasses, and unexpected foliage. Whether you are planning a classic autumn wedding, a romantic garden celebration, or something with just a hint of Halloween, October gives you plenty to work with.

Bring on the Fall Color

October is the perfect excuse to move beyond blush and white and explore some of the richer colors of the season.

Think burnt orange, terracotta, burgundy, plum, mustard, rust, and deep red. These colors look especially beautiful against the greens of a Florida landscape and can make even a tropical setting feel distinctly autumn.

Fall Wedding Florals

Chrysanthemums are an obvious October choice, but they have come a long way from the potted mums sitting beside the front door. Florists can source mums in sophisticated bronze, copper, burgundy, cream, and rust shades, and their wide range of flower forms makes them surprisingly versatile in bouquets and arrangements.

Dahlias are another fall favorite when available. Their dramatic blooms bring texture and depth to an arrangement, particularly in wine, peach, orange, and creamy neutral shades.

Roses are available year-round and make it easy to build an autumn palette even when Florida’s weather isn’t cooperating with the calendar. Toffee, caramel, terracotta, burgundy, and dusty mauve roses can instantly give an arrangement an October feel.

Don’t Forget Florida’s Own Fall Flowers

A Florida wedding doesn’t have to rely entirely on flowers shipped from somewhere experiencing a more traditional autumn.

Native wildflowers can bring a wonderfully natural feel to an October wedding, particularly for couples who want arrangements that look a little less formal.

Goldenrod Bouquet

Goldenrod is one of the standouts of the season. Its clouds of tiny golden flowers add movement and texture and pair beautifully with deeper reds, oranges, and purples. It also has the advantage of looking unmistakably autumnal without looking out of place in Florida.

Native asters are another lovely choice. Their small daisy-like flowers can add lavender, purple, and white to arrangements while providing the loose, meadow-like quality that works so well for outdoor weddings.

October is also a great time to think about more than individual flowers. Native grasses and seed heads can add texture and movement to arrangements, particularly for rustic, natural, or bohemian weddings. They are an easy way to suggest fall without filling every centerpiece with orange flowers.

Let Tropical Flowers Go to the Dark Side

One of the advantages of getting married in Florida is that you don’t have to choose between tropical and seasonal.

Tropical flowers can look like fall when you choose the right varieties and pairings. Anthuriums in burgundy, wine, rust, or deep red can feel dramatically different from their bright tropical counterparts. Orchids in moody purples, reds, and warm sunset shades can do the same.

Tropical Fall Bouquet

Even familiar tropical foliage changes character when surrounded by autumn colors. Monstera, palms, and other glossy greens can provide a lush backdrop for copper, burgundy, and orange flowers.

For a more dramatic arrangement, consider adding dark foliage. Deep purple and nearly black leaves can give traditional wedding flowers an unexpected October edge without turning the entire event into a Halloween party.

A Little Halloween Can Be a Lot of Fun

Of course, some couples getting married in October want a little Halloween.

You don’t need plastic spiders or miniature pumpkins to do it.

Deep burgundy dahlias, dark calla lilies, purple orchids, red roses, blackish foliage, amaranthus, and unusual seed pods can create arrangements that feel romantic, dramatic, and just slightly mysterious. Trailing flowers and greenery can add to the effect, particularly in bouquets and arrangements designed to feel loose rather than perfectly symmetrical.

Orchids and Calla Lillies

For a more playful October wedding, celosia is worth considering. Its unusual forms and fiery reds, oranges, yellows, and burgundies look right at home in fall arrangements. Some varieties already have the wonderfully strange appearance that October practically demands.

You can even incorporate small ornamental peppers, berries, branches, or interesting fruits into arrangements for something unexpected.

The trick is restraint. A few unusual elements mixed with beautiful traditional flowers can suggest Halloween without making the reception look like a costume party, unless, of course, that is exactly what you are going for.

Think Beyond Flowers

Some of the most interesting October arrangements aren’t made entirely of flowers. Adding a few unexpected botanical elements can bring another layer of texture and make a bouquet or centerpiece feel much more seasonal.

Consider mixing in:

  • Berries for color and texture
  • Native grasses and seed heads for movement
  • Branches for height and structure
  • Dried botanical material for an autumn feel
  • Herbs such as rosemary for fragrance and greenery
  • Dark or colorful foliage for contrast
  • Interesting fruits or ornamental peppers for something unexpected

October is a particularly good month to embrace texture. A bouquet doesn’t necessarily need twenty different flowers when a handful of beautiful blooms are surrounded by grasses, berries, foliage, and seed heads.

These elements can also tie floral arrangements into the rest of the wedding. A sprig of rosemary at each place setting, small branches worked into centerpieces, or grasses repeated between bouquets and ceremony arrangements can make the entire design feel connected.

October Doesn’t Have to Look Like October Everywhere Else

Perhaps the best thing about an October wedding in Florida is that you get to decide what fall looks like.

It can be goldenrod and native asters at an outdoor ceremony. It can be orchids and palms mixed with rust-colored roses. It can be burgundy dahlias and dark foliage at a candlelit reception. It can even be wonderfully weird, with celosia, seed pods, and flowers dark enough to make a Halloween-loving heart happy.

You don’t need changing leaves to have an autumn wedding.

In Florida, October can be lush, colorful, tropical, wild, romantic, and just a little spooky, all at the same time.
