The gardening season and Mother’s Day go hand in hand, no matter what part of the world your mom lives in. May is the time for gardening!!
Whether your mom is into flowers, food gardening, containers, classes, or cocktails, we have you covered with our perfect gift list.
Mother’s Day started in the early 1900s as a way to celebrate and say thank you for all the sacrifices mothers make for their children. Pay your mom back with something she will be able to cherish for years to come. Just like Mom, plants keep giving and giving.
Honor Mom with Roses
We all know roses are a must for Valentine’s Day, but did you know that Mother’s Day is the second biggest holiday for the not-so-humble rose?
May happens to be a great time to plant them and with their beautiful range of colors, sizes, and scents, they have one to suit everyone. Does your mom ideal royalty or a celebrity? Roses have a habit of being named after them, so you could treat your mom to a meeting with a Marylin Monroe or Neil Diamond rose.
Container Gardens
If the act of planting annual flowers is a bit too daunting, a container garden is the ultimate living gift. Carefully curated flowers make any space brighter and more inviting and bring jewel-winged butterflies near the home.
Check out some of our premade container gardens, ask an employee to build one for you, or come on out with Mom on May 20th to make your own.
DIY Themed Containers
Does your mom love cocktails, tea, or salsa? You can create an easy garden of herbs important for each of those in a beautiful container of choice.
For a cocktail container, pair herbs like mint for mojitos, and you can’t make a salsa garden without cherry tomatoes and cilantro. Herbs like chamomile, mint, and even basil make a lovely cup of tea.
The Gift That Keeps on Giving
Fruit trees are more than a pretty gift. They offer a bit of food security at a time when produce prices are rising.
If you are dealing with an impatient mom, consider choosing a fig, banana, blueberry, papaya, or a Florida peach, all of which fruit within 3 years. Keep in mind most mangos, citrus, avocados, and tropicals take 5 or more years to fruit.
Rare Houseplants
This is an excuse to splurge! If your mom loves variation and houseplants that are anything but ordinary, there are so many beautiful ones out there waiting to make your mom’s home special.
Houseplants are the ultimate decor for any garden lover.
Garden Education
If you are blessed with a mom who is a lifetime learner, consider getting her tickets to one of the many seminars and workshops we offer. Even better, join her!
On May 20th, we have a fun, hands-on workshop where you and your mom can create a beautiful container garden.
Or, grab her some tickets to this month’s grow your own food seminar to learn how to utilize a grow bag to grow food and improve your soil.
Let Her Choose
With so many options, it’s no wonder that gift cards are the present of choice for so many.
A Rockledge Gardens gift certificate enables Mom to purchase whatever she fancies, from an actual plant to an elaborate garden statue for her landscape.
Take a Visit to Your Favorite Garden Center
Finally, why not take your mom for a stroll through the gardens this Mother’s Day? With light bites to purchase from Garden Party and beverages from local vineyards and breweries, it’s a great way to spend the day.
From 11am to 3pm, we will have vendors, live music in the beer garden, a social + shop in the Botanical Boutique, and more! We will also be giving a free 4” perennial to every maternal figure and offering mimosas!
However you choose to spend it, make sure your mom knows how much you value her.
