In Greek mythology, Gemini ideology is wrapped in the myth of Pollux and Castor. Pollux was fortunate to be the son of the legendary Zeus, and Castor was the son of the king of Sparta.
Both were so close that Zeus decided to give immorality to Castor, which united them together forever.
Geminis are considered lucky, as they are always paired. However, this also means they are full of internal contradictions and can be difficult to buy a gift for.
Both extravagant and casual, modest and boastful, a plant is one of the safest gifts you can give. Plants, and much of nature, have a way of evoking multiple feelings for different people.
If you are into astrology, you might have picked up on how frequently plants are mentioned as a fondness of Geminis (this Gemini can sure relate). They tend to devote their energy to a few special varieties or may choose to exercise their love of gardening in a community garden or work in a botanical garden.
Many also happen to have stellar backyards. Geminis do not go halfway into anything and tend to turn the ordinary into the spectacular. As an air sign, houseplants and those associated with air quality make for a great gift.
So what plants would be suitable for a complicated, focused, social individual? In short, the fun ones! This is the time to buy the dramatic, the showy, the rare and the interesting. The inquisitive nature of the Gemini will delight in having something unusual.
Here are the plants that make our shortlist for plants to please Geminis:
Ornamentals:
Swiss Cheese Plant (Monstera deliciosa) Okay, so maybe these are more common these days but everything from the holes in the leaves to the absurd size they can get, this is a showstopper.
Clerodendrum- Fragrance is just as important as the aesthetic for Geminis, and the Clerodendrum Quadriloculare is a delight for all the senses. It also happens to bloom in our part of Florida now, making it all the more appropriate for May/June babies.
Arabian Lilac (Vitex trifolia purpurea)- There are a few planted in the ground in the garden for a reason. Yes, it gets the usual violet plumes of flowers one would expect with lilac, but the leaves are what sets it apart. The dark color against the light flowers is incredible and not to be missed.
Night-blooming Jasmine (Cestrum nocturnum)– Why settle for just plants that bloom during the day? Cover all your bases by planting a few night bloomers. Even if your Gemini is not a night owl, the scent lingers well into the morning.
Gardenia (Gardenia sp.)- Geminis are experiential people, and gardenias are an experience in and of themselves. From the large rosette-like blooms to their intoxicating scent, this plant holds special meaning for many and is a treat for both the eyes and nose.
Edibles:
Jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus)– Nothing screams “notice me” quite like a jackfruit. From the huge size of the fruit to the way it grows along the trunk, it’s sure to delight. If you are already a pro with mangoes and avocados, a jackfruit is just as easy to manage and one fruit will supply pounds of delicious fruit.
Endive (Cichorium endivia)– Endive superficially resembles the lung, and as an air sign, this is a natural draw for Gemini. They also happen to be fancier lettuce, suitable for appetizers, company, and showing off.
Carrots (Dacus carrotus)– Coming in a rainbow of hues, the textured greens and bright colors are eye candy at its best. Just make sure to wait until the weather cools down to plant this one.
Parsnips (Pastinaca sativa)- Belonging to the same family as carrots, parsnips are equally as impressive with their beautiful umbel of flowers atop feathery foliage. A little less assertive in taste but the perfect accompaniment to a roasted vegetable tray.
Lemon Balm-(Melissa officinalis) Lemon balm has scent, color, and texture going for it. A plant with a history of serving as both medicine and food, it is a powerhouse herb for any garden.
Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare)– Fennel is all about texture! Its lovely greens add a touch of whimsy to the garden and also attract jewel-winged butterflies to your yard.
Bonus:
Cut Flowers!
If you know a potted plant might not do, never underestimate the power of cut flowers!
Not only are they showy and beautiful, but as previously discussed on the blog, they hold distinct messages. Keep the language of the flowers alive with a thoughtful, meaningful bouquet.
Geminis are sure to be delighted by whatever you decide to gift them, but for your flower-loving May and June pals, the gift of a plant is sure to make a lasting impression.
