Aries is the first sign of the Zodiac calendar and it applies to anyone who has a birthday from the 21st of March through the 19th of April.
Unlike some of the more elusive signs, everything about Aries is in your face! They are represented by a ram, which is not an animal you want to run into when out hiking by yourself. Like their animal counterparts, Aries share tenacity, independence, and leadership.
Aries are not afraid to be the center of attention, will take the road less traveled, and take risks. The color best associated with Aries is red, unsurprisingly, due to its bold hue.
These collective traits make plant shopping for Aries a blast! It means bright colors, plants that draw in focus, lots of texture, and toughness. Here are our top picks for plants that would suit any Aries.
Houseplants
Croton (Codiaeum variegatum)
Here in Florida, we can get away with planting these colorful plants outdoors, but the smaller ones make for excellent, low-key houseplants. Perfect for someone who doesn’t just want a sea of green in their home! The bright, bold colors scream Aries as does the fact these will easily become a focal point in your home.
Succulents (Crassula sp.)
Any succulent fits the characteristics of an Aries!
The low maintenance, rough and tough exterior are on point for independent Aries and they are also much harder to accidentally kill for those of us who subscribe to a different sign. You cannot go wrong with gifting a succulent.
Sago Palm (Cycas revoluta)
Not a palm, just a cycad in disguise, this houseplant is known as a “plant of steel” for its ability to withstand periods of neglect. Just be careful if you have dogs and cats who are plant curious as all cycads are toxic.
African Violet (Saintpaulia ionantha)
Violets are meant to be noticed. African violets come in an array of colors, so be sure to choose the Aries in your life’s favorite.
Easy to care for and a pleasure to look at, African violets are one of the most underrated houseplants.
Edible Plants
Basil (Ocimum basilicum)
A bit assertive and always adding to the dish, basil is an herb worthy of an Aries.
Chervil (Anthriscus cerefolium)
Chervil is unexpected and less familiar with western cooking. However, its unique flavor will have you thinking outside the box as to what to add it to next.
Mint (Mentha sp.)
Refreshing yet astringent, there is no chance of misinterpreting the flavor of mint! It tends to spread since, like Aries, it’s a powerful leader.
Peppers
Peppers of all kinds, with their bright colors and spicy bite, represent the bold assertive side of Aries.
First to be noticed in a dish, hot peppers make everything more interesting.
Flowers
Geranium (Pelargonium)
Geraniums come in vibrant shades, many of which were used for dyeing clothing. Hardy and pest resistant, no one messes with geraniums.
Red Roses (Rosa sp.)
Fragrant, bold, and anything but shy, red roses mean business.
In the floral industry, red roses signify passion and are the most gifted flower on Valentine’s day. A rose shrub that Aries can enjoy year after year is a perfect choice.
Calendula (Calendula officinalis)
Also known as marigolds, these flowers are strong enough to keep pests away from the garden but beautiful enough to attract pollinators. The most valuable player of the vegetable garden, the flowers are also edible.
Firecracker Plant (Russelia equisetiformis)
Aries is a fire sign, so there had to be at least one “fire” plant on the list.
Firecracker is a great choice for anyone who loves both color and hummingbirds, as you will get both with purchase.
Whatever plant you choose, plants that personify Aries are bold and beautiful, and instantly become the focal point of whatever space they are in, whether indoors or out.
